Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that affects how your body processes blood sugar (glucose). With type 2 diabetes, your body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or doesn’t use it effectively, causing glucose to build up in the bloodstream.

Type 2 diabetes develops when the body becomes insulin resistant, meaning cells no longer respond properly to insulin. Over time, the pancreas struggles to keep up, and blood sugar rises.

Risk factors include:

type 2 patient
  • Being overweight

  • A sedentary lifestyle

  • Family history of diabetes

  • Being 45 or older

  • A history of gestational diabetes or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

  • High blood pressure or abnormal cholesterol levels

While type 2 diabetes is a lifelong condition, it can often be managed—and even improved—with lifestyle changes, medications, and expert care.
