• Fruity-smelling breath – a sign of ketones building up in the blood

• Irritability or mood changes – feeling easily annoyed, upset, or emotional

• Nausea and vomiting – in severe cases, a sign of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a dangerous condition
